Every five minutes we load your site from outside your server and record what came back. If it stops answering, you hear about it. And because we are also recording how hard the server is working, you usually get to see what led up to it instead of just being told it happened.

A check every five minutes, day and night
Each site is loaded on a schedule, and we record whether it answered and how long it took. Because the response time is kept every single time, a site that has been getting slower for a fortnight looks like a slope on a chart rather than a surprise on a Tuesday.
A record you can show someone
Every check is kept. "It was fine last Tuesday" turns from something you remember into something you can point at, which helps when a client asks how reliable their site has been.
You decide how twitchy it is
Two failures in a row before an alert suits most sites. A checkout that must never be down might deserve one. A small brochure site on a patchy connection probably deserves three. It is a setting per site.
Going down is rarely the first sign
Disk space filling up, memory creeping upward, pages taking twice as long as they did a fortnight ago. Those come first, and they are all recorded. The uptime check is the alarm; the statistics are the reason.

How often is my WordPress site checked?
Every five minutes, from outside your own infrastructure. How often it runs, how long it waits before giving up, and what counts as a healthy response are all adjustable per site.
Will I get an alert every time the site hiccups?
No. An alert waits for the site to fail more than once in a row, so a single slow response does not disturb anyone. You can make it more or less sensitive depending on how much that site matters.
Does uptime monitoring cost extra?
No, it is included rather than sold as an add-on. Turn it on for whichever sites you want it for.
Why is this on the same screen as the server statistics?
Because "the site is down" and "the disk filled up at twenty to four" are the same event. Keeping them in two separate products means somebody has to line up two clocks during the worst ten minutes of their week.
