Setting up your first server

Three steps, and WPShift does the middle one. The tiles are the server filling up: empty capacity, then the stack going in, then your sites live on it.

  1. Step 1

    Connect your cloud account

Give WPShift access to your provider account. You choose where the server runs and which size to use.

  2. Step 2

    Let WPShift set it up

WPShift installs the web server, PHP, database and caching, and applies the server's firewall and access settings.

  3. Step 3

    Add your WordPress sites

Create a new site or migrate an existing one, then manage its settings, backups and updates from the dashboard.

One dashboard for every site you run

Servers, sites, domains and mailboxes in one place, with the settings for each of them a click away rather than one control panel per host.

More control over performance, security and costs

The three things people actually change hosting for. Here is the mechanism behind each, rather than an adjective.

A server configured for WordPress

Page caching and Redis cut repeated work. Choose a PHP version per site, and watch CPU, memory and disk as your traffic grows.

How caching works

Security settings applied during setup

The firewall denies incoming traffic except where a rule allows it, SSH access is managed by key, and each site gets its own system user and database credentials.

A hosting bill you can read

Your provider invoices you directly for a server in your own account, at their price, with nothing added by WPShift. Run several sites on one server, within your plan and the server's resources.

Compare your costs

Already have sites somewhere else?

The WPShift migration plugin copies your WordPress files and database to the destination server. Your current site keeps serving traffic the whole time, and you review the imported copy on a temporary address before you change your domain's DNS.

What WPShift costs

Your plan covers the WPShift software. A server in your own cloud account is billed by your provider, at their price. If you would rather not run a cloud account, you can buy a server through WPShift Cloud instead.

Questions before you start

The ones worth answering before you connect an account. Anything else, ask us.

Do I need to set up the server myself?

No. You connect your cloud account and choose the server; WPShift installs and configures what WordPress needs. Routine hosting tasks after that are dashboard controls.

Do I need to buy hardware?

No. You rent a cloud server from a supported provider. It runs in your account and WPShift sets it up for you.

Will my sites be faster?

WPShift gives you server-level page caching, Redis and per-site PHP versions. Whether that is faster than what you have now depends on your current hosting, the server you choose and how the site is built. Migrate a copy and compare before you switch.

Is it cheaper than my current hosting?

It can be, particularly if you run several sites that can share a server. Compare your current total against a WPShift plan plus the server capacity you need, and include domains, storage and email in both figures.

Can I keep using WordPress normally?

Yes. Each site is a standard WordPress installation with its own admin, themes and plugins. WPShift manages the hosting underneath it.

What stays mine if I stop using WPShift?

A server created in your own cloud account stays in that account and keeps running. What stops is the management layer around it — so before cancelling, check which WPShift services you depend on, including DNS, mailboxes, backups and monitoring. WPShift Cloud servers have separate billing terms.
