One score tells you little. Thirty tell you a lot

Running a speed test by hand gives you today's number and no idea how it got there. A daily record shows you the score sat at 92 for a month, fell to 71 on the 26th, and came most of the way back on the 3rd. Now you have a date, and you can go and see what was installed or changed that day.

Phones and computers, measured separately

The same page can be fine on a laptop and slow on a phone, usually for a reason that only affects one of them. Averaging the two hides exactly the thing worth knowing, so we keep them apart.

Be told when it matters to you

Set a score to stay above, per site. A site whose whole job is being found in search is worth watching closely. An internal tool nobody browses is probably not worth an alert at all.

Common questions

Are these real Google PageSpeed scores?

Yes. The tests run through Google PageSpeed Insights against your live address, so the numbers are the same ones you would get by testing it yourself. The difference is that they run every day and are kept.

Does this measure Core Web Vitals?

The measurements behind the speed score are recorded every time: how long the main content takes to appear, how much the page jumps around while loading, and how long it is unresponsive. That is lab testing. The figures Google collects from real visitors to your site come from Google itself and are not something any host can produce for you.

How do I find out what made the score drop?

Find the day it fell, then look at what happened around it. Each site keeps a record of what was installed, updated or changed, with dates. It is usually the update that landed the night before.

Will a better score improve my Google ranking?

Page experience is one signal among many, and a slow page is far more likely to lose you visitors than rankings. Treat the score as a measure of whether the site is pleasant to use on a phone, which is worth caring about either way.
